Error 51-c00df236 is usually shown on the Xbox 360 when you attempt to play DiVX files. It prompts you to download the Optional Media Update, which enables the console to play such files. However, there are accounts that even with the update installed, the console insists you log into Live just to view the videos.

What if I do not want to log into Live?

Here's the fix: Create a new profile and create a new Xbox Live gamertag. Download the Optional Media Update with that profile logged in.

FIXED. Now you do not have to be logged in to view your avi files!

Yes, I've heard this explanation a few times but my problem is - When the error code comes up and tells me to log into Xbox Live and play the media again, I can't. I can't because I either have to have the Xbox plugged into Live OR the computer from which I play my movies. So obviously I cannot sign into Live and try to play the media again without unplugging it from Live. I can't sign into Live and get the update because I have to try and play the media to get it. 'Tis most frustrating as I've watched movies from this very laptop on the Xbox (not signed into live) many times - Please help....
