Error 51-c00df236 is usually shown on the Xbox 360 when you attempt to play DiVX files. It prompts you to download the Optional Media Update, which enables the console to play such files. However, there are accounts that even with the update installed, the console insists you log into Live just to view the videos.

What if I do not want to log into Live?

Here's the fix: Create a new profile and create a new Xbox Live gamertag. Download the Optional Media Update with that profile logged in.

FIXED. Now you do not have to be logged in to view your avi files!

Do you want to watch 720p/1080p mkv files on your Xbox 360? Chances are your console will not even detect such videos. There is a program that will make conversions a breeze:
